Oil on canvas, monochrome abstract, 18” x 24”
Ebony Love brings my piano into my living room with all of my comfortable furnishings. As my first abstract, Ebony Love made a public debut at the Business of Art Center in Manitou Springs in May 2012 in my first exhibition.
City Management brings constant stress into your life. My piano has balanced that by raining harmonic dewdrops into my soul.
Admittedly, city management has taken its toll on me just as it has on my 6’ 11” Schimmel. Ebony Love has multiple cracks in her soundboard from 11 moves and relocation from the ocean to the desert to the mountains. She still sings to my heart. Even though she is old and worn, she still has much to offer.
About City Management: The city management profession was established in response to the corruption of the Strong Mayor form of government prolific in the early 1900s. The old form of the Strong Mayor was replaced by the Council/Manager form of government where a professional city manager is hired to conduct the daily operations of the city. The professional manager provides a buffer between the elected, political officials and the organization to ensure an ethical, well-run organization. The city manager is responsive to the elected body charged with policymaking. The Council/Manager form of government remains a strong, healthy form of government in cities across America, as well as other countries.
